My autobiography

　　My name is Xuan. There are five family members in my home, and I am included. I live in a small town of Tainan; the surroundings are very simple and quiet. I am glad that I born to my parents, for they are the best parents in the world. My father is both rigorous and benign to us. It is because he places great emphasis on our schoolwork and the development of reading. But instead of blaming my occasional bad scores, he often comforts and encourages me to study hard. Besides, when my father has free time, he sometimes takes my sisters and me to library to spend the holidays. Also, he is responsible for the whole family. He works very hard and late; besides, he never complains about the work. Moreover, he often encourages my sisters and I to study hard and to read more meaningful books in order to progress our knowledge. My father always teaches us “Never give up”, and he always holds a positive attitude toward life and it affects my personality a lot. Due to my father, I am optimistic and outgoing. Moreover, when facing the difficulties, I never feel frustrated. Rather, I take it as an opportunity to become more capable. When it comes to my lovely mother, she is second to none in my eyes. My mother takes charge of everything in my home, and she is very careful and easygoing. She is always willing to help others and never ask for rewards. From what is mentioned above, I learned a lot from my parents such as being optimistic when facing the challenges, and I always look on the bright side even if I fail what I want to achieve. The atmosphere of my family is very harmonious; therefore, I love my family very much.

　I applied to Department of Applied Foreign Languages of National Tainan Commercial Vocational Senior high school. It’s because I have a strong passion for languages, especially English. I’ve been learning English since I was an elementary school student. From then on, I found it is interesting to learn English. Nevertheless, I didn’t stand out on the crowd then; hence, I tried my best to strengthen my English ability for the enthusiasm and improvement. When I was a junior high school student, my English scores always on the first place in the class, but I didn’t satisfy and feel proud. I kept on learning English by listening to English songs, reading English magazines, watching movies in English, writing diary in English and so on. When I was an eight-grader, I passed the elementary level of General English Proficiency Test (GEPT). After graduating the junior high school, I chose to keep on my passion. Therefore, I applied to vocational senior high school in order to select the English as my major. In the NTCVS, I really improved my English ability a lot. The intensive English-related classes promoted me keep on listening, speaking, reading, writing English every day. Besides, I took part in a lot of contests related to English. For instance, I was selected from my class to contest the national vocabulary competition. Besides, my classmates and I were chose to perform the English story-telling in school. Moreover, I volunteered to take part in the English power point contest, and I also got a good grade. From the various competitions I had participated, I passed the intermediate of GEPT without effort. On top of that, I also join many extracurricular activities such as volleyball, basketball competition with my classmates. During the seniro high life, i leared a lot of things and became more mature. The memories in my senior high school are so wonderful and unforgetable that I will never forget.

　When it comes to my interests, I think I am really active and vigorous. As the saying goes,” All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” Hence, my parents put great emphasis on schoolwork and entertainment. Besides studying, I’m fond of playing volleyball with my classmates. Not until I played it did I find it is so interesting! It’s because I love the atmosphere of teamwork and the feelings of victory. Additionally, the relationship between my classmates and me also become better and better in the volleyball contests. Apart from volleyball, basketball is also one of my favorite sports. I feel enthusiastic in the basketball contests and I always do my utmost to score on the court. Moreover, enjoying running, I practice running twice a week and so I can run faster than almost my peers; consequently, I was elected to take part in the race contests such as 100-meter race and 800-meter relay by my classmates in the sport meet. Aside from sports, I also like to practice my both Chinese and English typing abilities when I have free time. As a result, I got 72 words per minute in Chinese typing test. From what is mentioned above, I think my life is colorful and wonderful because I feel energetic every day.
　
　Having a passion for English, I am willing to dedicate myself to learning it after I graduate from senior high school. As far as I am concerned, learning English is not only for earning high scores in school but for satisfying my desire to advance my English abilities. Hence, I hope I have opportunity to enter English Department of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. With the wonderful facilities, exceptional teachers and competitive students there, I am convinced that I can and amass adequate abilities. With a view to entering my ideal university, I lay the breakground in my junior high life. When I was a senior high school student, I made great progress in English. As a consequence, I hope I can qualify for your university in the future.

Though learning well languagess is not so easy in a short time, I still stick to my faith that "No pain, no gain." Moreover, with my interest in English, I have confidence that I can overcome any predicament when learning it. As a result, I enjoy learning it and I hope I can become a valuable person in the foreseeable future.

My name is Wei Wei Chang, who is 18 years old and was born in I-Lan. There are seven members in my family. My grandparents who are so kind teach me a lot of things about our traditional customs in Taiwan . I think that is very interesting and remarkable for every citizen of Taiwan . When I was a child my parents aimed at the development of my personality. My father is a simple and down-to-earth person. My mother has a mild character, who is also a good housewife. My older sister is a beautician, and my younger brother is a junior middle school student. I was grown up in such a fabulous atmosphere; therefore, I have a positive point of view about everything.

I am studying in St. Mary’s School of Nursing which is a vocational high school in I-Lan. I have been studying for nursing since three years ago. In my first grade, I attended to English oral competition and got the third place. Besides, I still took this competition the next year and got the same result, the third. One thing I want to mention is I joined the special club, which is an organization to help and concern the elder in a community. That was also a wonderful and unforgetful experience in my high school life.

I have a lot of different hobbies, for example, I joined English Conversation Club, Guitar Club, and POP Club. They are all my favorite activities which helped me gain so many skills from this kind of learning. For instance, how to create a beautiful poster, how Americans use their daily life slang, and how to play an instrument of guitar to my unhappy crying friends, etc.

In my free time, I like reading, playing basketball, go shopping with friends, or cooking with my mother. When we have a holiday, I like to go traveling with my lovely family best. Listening to music is also the way I relax myself. By the way, when I feel blue, I prefer talking to my mother or friends to get their opinion.

My strength is I am kind of considerate person. The reason I describe myself this way is because of my future career, a nurse. In my mind, a nurse should help the sick without complaint. However, this is a long way to go, and I will try my best to achieve this goal. In the future, I hope I can contribute all I have learned to the people who need. Of course, I still desire to learn more from the other task which I might face hereafter. To make my dream come true, I will try my best to work harder; thus, I believe that I will possess these professional abilities to perform my dream step by step smoothly.

My family consists of five members – parents, two younger brothers and me. Father, 45, is a public official working for Taiwan Electricity Corporation. Mother, 42, is a traditional housewife and takes care of the whole family with full heart. Both of them pay much attention on their children’s education. One of my brothers is a student at Chung-shen University majoring chemistry and the other is serving military duty. We are a very harmonious family.

　Many people may have the same experience about meeting others online; indeed, it’s a common way to make friends nowadays. Besides, it becomes the fastest way to get along with your friends. Hence, I agree with meeting people through online dating sites, and there are some following reasons. First, today’s technology is advanced, meeting people online may help you jump on the bandwagon. It’s because you can broaden your horizon by meeting different people and get the latest information and gossip. Second, you can know the friend who you are talking to more clearly online before you go out to have a date with him/her. It may minimize the risk of meeting bad guys. Third, when you face something unpleasant but shy to talk to your friends, you can turn to your friends online and take your frustration, sadness or complaints out on Net. In sum, I’m on the same page as those who like to make friends online.

　As a student, you must have wondered “Why we have to wear uniforms for school?” But it is truly necessary for the practical reasons below. The most obvious reason is that wearing uniforms is symbolic of the student of certain school. Whatever you do is a symbol of your school’s reputation. Besides, when your security is threatened, you will be rescued much faster if your identity is specific. Second, it is equal to every student when wearing uniforms. It’s because people ought not to rank them according to their appearances. Third, wearing uniforms means discipline and unity for you’re in a big group; therefore, you must wear uniform to stand for your school’s style. The final point is that you can save money for your family if your siblings are going to enter your school and you already graduated. Hence, your parents don’t have to afford extra expense. From what is mentioned above, I’m in favor of wearing uniform for school.

　There is no denying that almost everyone learns English all over the world, and thus English has become the commonest language nowadays. It is considered that English is the most important language, and I am no exception. Below are some reasons for which I think it is crucial. Firstly, English is an international language for it is the mother tongue for most of the critical countries. By virtue of learning English, it will enable you to communicate with foreigners without efforts and you can also make friends with them. Secondly, you will have access to job opportunities more easily if you’re good at English. It is because mastering certain important language is one of the essential requirements of jobs. Thirdly, you can travel around the world without worrying language barrier. Not only is it very enjoyable for you to travel around by yourself, but you can become independent and more competent to deal with many things. Besides, you can advance your English oral ability abroad. Last and most important, you can broaden your horizon such as knowing international news or important events in the world. According to above explanations, I’m convinced that learning English is a correct choice, and I will keep on going.

Discussing effect 2 - Revised

　A large change of Acton, a small town in the Midwest is that a large profit-driven factory will be built in the foreseeable future. It will have a great effect on this austere area; in my opinion, I’m against this idea for some explanations below. Firstly, this big project will affect the locals’ environment where they have been familiar with for a long time. Besides, the residents have to make adjustment for this big change and it will take a great time for them. Secondly, the development of the factory will bring a lot of pollution, such as air pollution, river pollution, garbage pollution and so on. Moreover, the environment will be destroyed on account of the advent of the factory. Thirdly, many people will move in this small town owing to the prospects of the jobs offered by the factory, which will result in the shortage of resources such as food. Besides, people here will not able to compete with their rivals coming from cities. Last but not least, it is not anyone’s right to damage the harmonious environment which offers many non- artificial things such as beautiful scenery, pure water and fresh air. Therefore, I strongly oppose this propose and I hope more people can have consciousness about our nature mother.
